Maria Menounos

As she was caring for her mother who suffers from Stage 4 brain cancer Maria found out she was in the midst of an illness of her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. She tells PEOPLE that she had been suffering from headaches and lightheadedness from February 2014. "My speech was slurred. It was also difficult for me to comprehending the prompter on the teleprompter." Menounos was diagnosed with a meningioma-sized brain tumor. A MRI confirmed this. Menounos booked an appointment to see her mother's neurosurgeon, Dr. Keith L. Black. The surgeon scheduled the surgery on June 8 for Menounos' 39th birthday. He told her, "I am 98 percent positive that the tumor is not malignant, but we'll never know until we actually get there," The complex procedure, lasting about 7 hours the surgeon Dr. Black was able to remove 99.9 per cent of the cancer. It was not cancerous. According Dr. Black, there is a 6-7 percent chance of the tumor recurring. The odds of this are my top option. Menounos has been admitted to hospital for 6 days, is now at home and spending recuperating. Maria Maria Maria
